About the Pastor
Rev. Boyd McDaniels Jr., is married to the former Mamie Lee of Baltimore, Maryland; and they have four children and six grandchildren.
Rev. McDaniels Jr. received his education in Darlington and Richland counties of South Carolina and Passaic, New Jersey graduating from Passaic Valley Technical School in Wayne, New Jersey, Bergen Technical College in Hackensack, New Jersey, studied at Dover Bible College, Dover, Delaware, School of Religion in Florence, SC and graduated from Morris College School of Religion , Sumter, SC.
He received Christ at the age of fifteen, was baptized and joined the Center Baptist Church of Darlington, where he served in several auxiliaries of the church. On March 3, 1983, he was anointed to preach the gospel and was licensed on April 3, 1983 and ordained on April 21, 1985 by Reverend M.R. Pickard, Pastor at Center Baptist Church. Rev. Boyd preached throughout the states of SC, NC, GA, NJ, NY and Connecticut until June 22, 1989, when he became the Pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church in Georgetown, SC for twenty-four years.
Rev. McDaniels stands proud on the progress he has made through Christ, while serving as Pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church. Projects that were completed under his leadership are the building of an Educational Center, purchase of seven acres of land, remodeling of the old church and the building of a new church with paved parking lot, new furniture, new sound system, organ and three keyboards and purchase of a bus and two vans totaling over $940,000.00. God also blessed Hopewell by developing twelve new ministries, licensed three preachers and ordained four deacons.
Rev. McDaniels became the Pastor at Mt. Zion Chapel Baptist Church on January 5, 2014; once again, God has blessed him with a vision for Mt. Zion Chapel church family. The growth of bible study and leadership classes have been completed. In November 2014, a Food Pantry was opened through the Harvest Hope Food Bank.
